Another year of unpredictable weather finds us in the first week of April with pouring rain, thunderstorms, and not enough dry days to plow. Yet.
Eggs hatched and we have baby chickens in the dining room for a few weeks. The kids love getting a chance to hold them, and it’s fun to watch as they grow and develop real feathers.

I have seedlings in the basement but there’s nothing to see outside yet. Evan prepped my potato patch, and I planted them last week. I’m excited to see how this root vegetable adventure goes. Another new experiment this year is ground cloth to keep the weeds down. We got some laid in the big garden, and peas and more root vegetables have been planted there as well.
My little raised bed herb garden looks really cute and I’m hoping to have it full of basil in May. Evan built it up for me last fall, and I’ve been eager to use it. Having fresh herbs close to the house will be a nice convenience. In addition to basil, I’ll likely add in chives, parsley and dill.
My flower garden is still in disarray, waiting for the tractor repair to churn up the dirt. If that doesn’t work out, I foresee some heavy labor for myself to get it ready for the first week of May.
